I want you to age well, Mentally.
I committed to this early in my life when I saw so many of the older generation around me were not doing this.
I decided four things would be my values for ageing well. Mentally.
Curiosity.
Openness.
Courage.
And Unlearning.
I wanted to stay curious all of my life especially as I aged.
Curiosity is this commitment to take roads less travelled and see what's down those roads even those was may be unpopular or controversial to those around you.
I wanted to be open, openness to me was I wanted to listen to other people's opinions to be open to other people's take on things that my echo chamber blindness was stopping me seeing.
I wanted to develop courage.
Because I found that my curiosity and openness took me into a lonely spaces and I needed to have courage to follow those roads because I knew that many people around me were disapproving and resistant to me pursuing these ideas, conversations, relationships that I felt my openness and curiosity were beautiful leading me into.
And the unlearning was my commitment especially as I aged to question things I've been taught and became attached to an identified with in my formative years.
I think unlearning is a huge superpower and it's difficult when you especially respect and love those that taught you something, that now you know you have to uncouple from.
These four things have become my go-to values for ageing well mentally.
